The Episcopalian Delegation of the Cultural Patrimony of the Archdiocese of Barcelona has as purpose the inventory, the classification, the custody, the conservation and the divulgation of the cultural goods of the archdiocese, immovable as well as movable; it is to preserve the legacy of our ancestors like a sign of our own cultural identity, to fulfil the evangelizing mission through this patrimony, to provide an accurate service to the parishioners and to all the society, and to fulfil the canonical and civil laws.
For such a goal, the DPC briefs the priests and the persons responsible for the patrimony on the importance of this cultural legacy and on the need to act according to the diocesan and civil rules.
Thus, as a consequence of the aforementioned goals, the inventory of the cultural patrimony of the diocese is continued, concrete performances of patronage are promoted to public or private entities in favour of the patrimony of the diocese, relations with public institutions are fostered, a follow-up of the work that is carried out is made, a contribution is brought to the best knowledge of the ecclesiastical patrimony in its catechetic and evangelist dimensions, and the study of the patrimony is promoted.
To collaborate and to advise the projects of work is an essential task of the DPC. It is necessary to remember that for any performance in the patrimony of the diocese, movable as well as immovable and documental, the license of the Ordinary (canon 1189 of the Codex Iuris Canonici of 1983 -CIC-) is needed. No work can be made without this permission. It is very important, equally, not to carry out any performance in the patrimony without the advice of the experts in the matter (c. 1216 CIC). That is why the DPC offers and will offer suitable advice.
When the work to carry out is directed and funded by public institutions or by patronages, the Bishopric will always have to be informed and, before proceeding to the execution of any project, will have to give the permission to implement it. Along the work, the DPC will make a follow-up of the work in question. A copy of the project will be made in the Bishopric.
Having a Mixed Commission Church-Generalitat, it is necessary to inform and to attempt to channel through the DPC the requests, proposals and formalities that are made to the Department of Culture of the Generalitat of Catalonia.
